This long-term project aimed to support the recovery of conflict affected populations in the North and East of Sri Lanka by improving living conditions, access to sustainable livelihood and the peaceful cohabitation of long term IDPs, host communities, resettled populations and returnees. The evaluation included collection of secondary and primary information; community consultation and stakeholder focal group discussions; analysis of data in respect to the achievement of results towards the goal of the project. | |

The project/assignment is to assist CIDA in the results monitoring and performance tracking of CIDA's longer term tsunami reconstruction programme in Sri Lanka. EML monitored various tsunami projects and reported on the overall progress and the impacts on the community. The program covered a wide spectrum of areas including housing, water, sanitation and hygiene, microfinance and livelihoods, strengthening community capacities, effective local governance, child care and gender issues, and restoration of environment and eco systems. The total funding is approx. US $ 80, million in 30 sub projects | |

The survey was conducted with the objectives (a) Improve living and working conditions of the estate work force to a level of comparable to national levels, and (b) enhance the profitability of the plantation sector through transformation of Regional Plantation Companies from primary producers to agribusiness entities. The baseline data and findings of the survey assisted the government in its long-term plans in the development of the plantation sector of Sri Lanka. The project was funded by The ADB. |
