HICZMP was to implement field measures and interventions to prevent degradation of natural and sensitive eco-systems in the coastal zone of Hambantota District. The project also established regulatory frame work for sustainable management of coastal zone by local authorities and communities. Under 3 interrelated sub projects, EML performed following activities: development of conceptual land-use plans; development of Environmental Guidelines; establishment of mangrove nurseries and ; development of measures to prevent further resource degradation; Implementation of mitigatory action plans for the prevention of pollution of selected areas; Resource inventory/assessment; and awareness/ training programmes for stakeholders.
