Hazardous wastes generated from various sources are estimated to be around 50,000 tonnes/per annum by year 2005. In view of this situation, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources wished to assess the current status of hazardous waste generation and disposal in Sri Lanka, in order to set up a hazardous waste treatment and disposal facility.
Reviewing and updating of existing studies and data/information on hazardous waste, identification of sources of hazardous waste generation; analyze types and quantities of waste generated, identification and recommendation of optimum methods/equipment of treatment for the different types of hazardous wastes including preparation of cost estimates, construction schedules and time frames.
