- Client: World Food Programme,
- Objective of the Project: Prepare a consolidated research report
- The overall objective of this consultancy assignment was to enhance Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) efforts across Sri Lanka. By examining South Asian experiences, locally led solutions, and traditional knowledge systems, the assignment contributed to the formulation of more sustainable and contextually relevant strategies for DRR and CCA. The expected outputs were as follows: a comprehensive study of successful strategies from South Asia that had proven effective in DRR and CCA, which enriched the knowledge base in Sri Lanka; a study that explored and documented traditional local knowledge on DRR and CCA, enabling its scientific integration to strengthen modern strategies; and a study that documented case studies of practices implemented and supported by civil society organizations (CSOs), highlighting effective, locally led DRR and CCA solutions. This work showcased grassroots initiatives and emphasized the importance of local engagement in building resilience. The primary outcome was a comprehensive consolidated handbook on DRR and CCA best practices, developed based on the above research components. The handbook served as a valuable resource for policy formulation, strategic interventions, and practical guidance in advancing DRR and CCA in Sri Lanka
